Las Vegas is not only an exciting destination in itself, it’s also quite close to several other places well worth visiting. The area has many fascinating attractions and landscapes just a short drive away, so today we are highlighting five of the best day trips to make from Las Vegas.
1. Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is one of the best known landmarks in the United States. Located in Grand Canyon National Park, it provides breathtaking views from several vantage points. You can find lodging in or near the park and explore it on foot, by car or even on the back of a mule. Helicopter tours are also exciting. Las Vegas is between 200 and 300 miles from the Grand Canyon, depending on which rim you visit.
2. Zion National Park
Another incredible national park that is within driving distance of Las Vegas is Zion National Park, which is located in Utah. The highlight of this park is Zion Canyon, which is 15 miles long and a half mile deep. Another dramatic feature of the park is The Narrows, where you are surrounded by thousand foot cliff walls. Zion National Park is about 159 miles from Las Vegas.
3. Lake Mead
Lake Mead, which is only about 25 miles from Las Vegas, is the largest reservoir in the United States. The Lake Mead Recreational Area is a beautiful area for hiking, boating, fishing or just enjoying the views. Many visitors enjoy canoeing or kayaking on Lake Mead.
4. Valley of Fire
Valley of Fire State Park is the oldest and largest state park in Nevada. Only 55 miles from Las Vegas, it’s an easy day trip from the city. Activities include hiking, camping, photography and picnicking. The park gets its name from the dramatic red sandstone formations that are widely found in the area.
5. Red Rock Canyon
Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, only 17 miles from The Strip in Las Vegas, contains almost 200,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness. It contains 30 miles of terrain for hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking and other outdoor activities. Red Rock Canyon also schedules a variety of lectures and special events throughout the year.
And if you want to unwind once you’re back from one of these day trips, you can always head down to the floor for a drink and a game of blackjack, poker, or Hi-Lo Cards.
Vegas looks amazing!!! It’s my dream city and want to visit once in my life time. Thank you for writing and sharing!!
Red Rock Canyon is great. The many different rock color patterns impress, but look also for the small animals that struggle in that hot and dry environment. I’ve found an endangered nail-sized red frog near a small puddle.
