Art Galleries to visit in NYC

New York City is a place overflowing with art and culture.  The best part is that many of the cultural experiences one can while traveling in New York are free.  It can be hard to decide what museum to skip and which one to visit. Here we’ve narrowed it down to just a few, and we’ll concisely explain why each one of them is worth exploring.

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Located in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the Guggenheim is a structure that stands out from the rest. The white spirals dominate the whole street block and make you wonder what great works lie inside. The nice thing about this space is the variety of art styles it houses, including Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, modern and contemporary; not to mention the number of special exhibitions it hosts throughout the year.  This is one of the best educational attractions in New York worth considering during your visit.

The Frick Collection

The Frick is perhaps one of the best kept secrets in the city. This exceptional collection stands in a former private mansion, just off of 5th Avenue and only a few steps away from Central Park. The museum houses works by the great masters as well as an ecclectic mix of porcelains, rugs, and fine furniture. Art lectures and concerts are regularly held in this grand space.

MoMA – Museum of Modern Art

Located in Midtown Manhattan, the Museum of Modern Art is considered to have one of the most impressive collections of modern masterpieces in the world. Some of the works housed within this museum include The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dalí, and the Water Lilies triptych by Claude Monet. It also hosts interactive and experiential exhibits throughout the year.
