If you love mountain climbing and are always looking for a new adventure, there are some excellent mountains to climb throughout Europe. Even if you do not look for a tall mountain to scale, or even have aspirations of making it to the top, some of these mountains are the best in the world for you to experience.
The Matterhorn
One of the most famous mountains in all of Europe, this is located in Switzerland and is shaped like a giant pyramid. This is actually the birthplace for mountaineering and is a must for anyone who considered themselves an avid mountain climber. This is one peak that requires a lot of experience in order to reach the summit. You’ll want to read up on the various routes and challenges that you can expect to face when climbing the Matterhorn.
Mount Elbrus
Located in Russia, Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Russia and it is also part of the Caucasus Mountain range that separates Europe and Asia. This is a double-coned volcano, although the summits of the two peaks only vary by about 65 feet.
Lenin Peak
Another famous Russian peak, it is one of the tallest in Russia, with the mountain peak sitting at over 7,000 meters. However, it is a steady, easy climb, so even if you have never climbed a mountain before, this is an excellent location to start.
Ararat
Situated in Turkey, this is a beautiful mountain to clime, due to the blooming flowers spread throughout the mountain. It is also believed to be potentially the resting place of Noah’s Ark, although there is no real answer to that belief. Perhaps you’ll be able to discover it.
Mont Blanc
Part of the Alpes in France, this is one of the most famous mountain ranges in all of the world, and it is also one of the most picturesque. Plus, with the summit at only 4808 meters high, it is an excellent place to start as a beginner.
